I have recently enrolled in the University of Nebraska's Distance Learning Program for a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies which will focus on Pediatrics. I am also pursuing an Art Degree which I hope to have completed soon.
I have been a Certified PA for about 8 years now. My most memorable event happened on an Indian Reservation that I was working on. It was two in the morning, and I was called to the ER for a multiple MVA. Two arrived by private vehicle, two were dead on scene and the other four arrived by ambulance. This was a very small ER, 2-3 beds at the most. I was in one of the most remote areas in South Dakota. The patients were in various states of shock. I was the only Provider on, and in the meantime waiting for back up seemed like an eternity. In time, all of the patients were stabilized and medivaced by helicopter. It is most memorable for me because I realized that ALL of my training in the NAVY and in PA school were both being utilized, and without that experience those people would not be here today. I am presently working at a Rural Health Clinic, it is not as exciting as the ER, but I do get the occasional chest pain that keeps things interesting. I perform routine History and Physicals, order labwork and chest x-rays. I feel like it is a very rewarding job.
I was married in 1991 just after returning from Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Sue is a Navy Nurse who has her Graduate Degree from Loma Linda University. She retires from the NAVY this year. We have considered a second home in Broken Arrow. We have two lovely daughters. Aerielle and Ashley. They are both purple belts in Shaolin Kenpo, and they recently placed second and third in their Regional Science Fair. Aerielle would have placed first, but the teacher entered her in the wrong category, instead of competing with fellow 7th graders, she competed against High School juniors and seniors. There is always next year. This is her second time to place.
It is unbelievable that 20 years have gone by. If my schedule permits, I will try to make the reunion. On a very personal note, I recently lost my brother. I miss him very much, and think of him often. Sometimes, we get so caught up with our daily lives, that we forget to let those who are important to us know that we love and cherish them. Don't let that happen to you. Carpe' Diem.
Veni, Vidi, Vici.
