In the months following graduation, I became a Long Distance Operator for Illinois Bell Telephone Company and worked for them for three years. The following year I sold stationary. Then I got the job of a lifetime (or so I thought). I worked for a small typesetting company as a switchboard/receptionist for 12 years. During this time Ned and I who were high school sweethearts, married in 1968. (He went to a rival high school). We traveled each spring, fall and summer while visiting 49 out of our 50 states, some three times. My job of a lifetime came to a halt when automated phone systems were installed. So, now out of work I became a housewife. I had an extensive garden and learned how to do home canning. Six years later I became a mother for the first time at 39 years old; three years later, again. While the boys were in school, I worked mothers hours doing various "temp" jobs. I was also the wedding co-coordinator for our local church for 10 years. During this time, I met a lady who did flowers for weddings and she asked me to deliver for her and help with design shows. I also worked for her for almost 10 years. At one of the jobs, I met a lady who did banquet hosting and also worked for her on weekend evenings for 8 years.
Both of our sons became Eagle Scouts. One became a Marine; guarded the president at Camp David and then went to Iraq. Now he is a federal police officer (D.O.D.) and he lives in Maryland with his wife and son. The other became a firefighter and is studying locally to become an EMT/Paramedic.
