A few weeks after graduation, I went to work at Illinois Lock Company doing general office work. I worked there for 6 years, eventually becoming the production control assistant, and then, secretary to the purchasing agent.
I was married in February of 1961 to Herman Dinkelman, who was also a student of Schurz, but two years ahead of me. I worked at the lock company until right before my first daughter, Dawn Marie, was born in March of 1966. My second daughter, Cherie Anne, was born in October of 1970. I had the great luxury of being a stay at home mom, for which I am so grateful, those were wonderful years! In 1982 Dawn was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, and passed away in Ocober of 1983.
In 1984 I went to work for Carson Pirie Scott, and remained there for almost 25 years as a bridal consultant, a job which I loved. The position was eliminated March 1, 2010, replaced by on-line registrations. I retired April 1st. I play a very active part in my three grandsons lives, babysitting, chauffeuring them to where they need to be, and going to games and functions. I love being with Cherie and the boys. Drake is 14, and will graduate from grammar school in June and baseball is his life! Brant is 12, in 6th grade, is an "A" honor student, and also loves sports. Pierce is 9, and is an avid soccer player, and is the picture of his mother! I know I am going to love being retired and look forward to this new phase of my life!
