Marilyn was a dear friend for over 50 years. We met as freshmen when she became a member of our high school sorority. She was a bubbly, fun-loving, caring person with an infectious laugh. As the years went on she was all those things and so much more...wife, mother, single parent, dancer, a courageous fighter as she battled cancer for the last 8 years. If you asked Marilyn how she was, she was always upbeat and confident. She was looking forward to dancing at our reunion sock hop, but sadly Marilyn passed away on April 6, 2010. She will be missed by all of us whose lives she touched.

My fondest memories from our high school days was that she decided that she and I should try out for majorettes but neither one of us owned a baton nor knew how to use one! We each bought one and practiced, practiced, practiced and we made the squad!...on to marching with the ROTC band in our glorious uniforms at half time at the football games and even on to Soldier's Field.

Marilyn was a dear sorority sister who always had spirit and always saw life from the sunny side. She loved to laugh, worked hard to raise two beautiful children on her own, college educated them, and saw both of them marry and have children of their own.

My tribute to Marilyn is that her spirit lives on in all of us...her sorority sisters will miss her.

Marilyn and I first met in Kindergarten at Murphy School and had been friends ever since.  We started a club at Murphy School and then joined others at Schurz to form our "sorority", which still gets together monthly.

We've been through every facet of life together and through it all, Marilyn was the strongest, most independent woman I've ever known.  She single-handedly raised her son and daughter, maintained her home, fixed her cars and worked hard.  Yet, she was always cheerful, upbeat and in control.

Our sorority has lost our first dear friend and we are so sad.  I will always remember her happy smile and her great example of how to face illness with grace.

Marilyn was a dear friend through the years dating back to kindergarten.  She will always be remembered for raising two wonderful children, her love of dancing, her perserverence and great attitude through difficult times, a kind word for everyone, and never eating dessert!!!

She will be missed by all of us in sorority.

Dear Marilyn,

I hope you realize how much I and the sorority loved you - your infectious laugh, your dancing skills, your energy, your ability to raise two beautiful and successful children, and your love of life. I picture you with your baton at the Schurz games twirling and smiling for all. I see you at our meetings ever present and entwined in us all. I shall never, ever forget you. You are my hero.

Love,

Judy

Marilyn was a wonderful friend and a wonderful person.  She was extremely courageous, always maintained a positive attitude and was very, very determined. We have been friends for over 63 years and our mothers before us were friends.

Our friendship continues through our children and grandchildren.  Our grandchildren go to the same school and the oldest are in the same grade.  They also attend the same church.  The last few years we attended their baseball games and we always sat together.  When the boys were on the same team it worked fine, but when they played against each other only friends for 63 years could decided what to do.  We would sit on one of the boys side for the first three innings and then switch to the other side for the last innings.  If one of the boys was up to bat, the crowd could always hear two grandmothers cheering.  All we wanted was both grandchildren to hit the ball or make the play and we cheered loudly.  It did not matter which team won or lost.

Marilyn was a wonderful friend, a great mom, a caring grandmother and is missed very, very much.

Love you Marilyn,

Eileen
