Upon graduation from Schurz, I attended Wright Junior-College. From there I went to Loyola University, Chicago, receiving a B. S. degree. After my misspent youth, including working two and a half years for the American Medical Association, which helped cure me of any potential conservative sympathies, I attended the University of Wisconsin, earning an M. A. and a PhD in political science, specializing in normative political theory. At Wisconsin, I met my wife Ann; in September we celebrated our fortieth anniversary. In 1970, I was offered a position at the University of Arkansas, from which I retired December 31, 2007. While at the University of Arkansas, I received two teaching awards, was deeply involved with the Honors and Humanities Programs, taught two future United States Senators, team taught with a retired Senator, and published a number of reviews, articles, and books, including four books dealing with my favorite topic – the analysis of political ideas in economics and the interrelation of politics and economics in economic theory. My hobbies include bread baking. Ann, who is also retired, and I are still exploring retirement’s possibilities, including more travel. I am still playing with several book ideas, and may write another one. I am also starting to examine art history, especially archaic and classical Greek art. One of the best things about being retired is not feeling guilty about reading for pleasure.
