My life after Schurz included one year at the University of Illinois, in Champaign and two years at North Park College. In 1964, I attended Washburne Trade School completing a five year apprenticeship and became a journeyman pipe fitter in 1969. In 1974, I married Kathleen McHugh, and in 1975 we moved to Park Ridge, Illinois where we raised our three children; Patrick, Colleen and Brigid. They all graduated from Maine South High School. They each went on to receive advanced degrees in Pharmacology, Teaching and Social Work. I retired in 2005 after 41 years as a pipe fitter. In 2006, we moved to Trout Valley, Illinois where we are now enjoying retirement.
