Lewie and I were teamates on the basketball team. We did not really socialize off the court, so most of my memories of him revolve around basketball. You learn alot about someone when you play competitive sports with them. One thing I admired about Lewie was his willingness to play a non-scoring role on a team which had 4 players averaging in double figures. Not everyone would accept such a role and play with the same great attitude and enthusiasm that he exhibited. And make no mistake -- he definitely contributed to the team's success. For example, our senior year we were playing in the State tournament against a team which we were supposed to lose to. We played the first quarter and did not score a single point. We were losing badly and were very frustrated. When the second quarter started, we were in shock. We had not been shut out in an entire quarter before. We continued the game, but kept missing our shots. Finally, someone took a shot with another miss. Lewie got the offensive rebound and scored! This gave the team a huge emotional lift. Things went much better after that. We were losing at the half, but outplayed the other team the rest of the way and won the game. I was very saddened to hear that Lewie passed away, and wish I had known him better. I did run into him a few times after graduation, and I always enjoyed seeing him. He will be missed.

I will always love Lewie. Is just not fair that he's gone. He was one of the kindest, funniest, most giving persons that I ever have met or ever will meet.  One example is his spending Pepper's Prom 1979 with me in my hospital room-he even brought me a corsage. Every time I think of his passing, my throat tightens and tears fall. I feel blessed to have had him for my friend. Always and forever, Janie

As many people know, Lewie and I were best friends and spent a great deal of time together. He was VERY funny and had a wonderful spirit.  I think about him constantly.  He was very close to his family in AK and will be missed by many people. It is difficult to even write about him. May he rest in peace.
