After graduation I got a summer job at Fisher Body Euclid and went on to General Motors Lordstown where I retired on my birthday in 2000. While working for GM I received a BS in Criminal Justice from Youngstown State. In the Ninties after a bout with Colon cancer and a divorce. I started to play Over-Thirty baseball, which took me all over the US, along with trips to Russia, China, and several countries in Europe. After retirement I worked for the Red Cross for two years. In 2002 I went to the Emergency Management Agency, where I became involved with Homeland Security. I have been there ever since, teaching counter-terrorism and WMD. I teach civilian First Responders to deal with Explosives and Biological, Chemical and Radiological weapons.
Since January 2010, I have belonged to a Disaster Medical Assistance Team, DMAT OH-6. If an incident happens anywhere in the world with casualties, our 45 member medical team can be deployed to help out with the situation.
I consider myself a sports junkie. I still play Over-Thirty baseball and attend way too many sporting events. I sometimes think that I should go to "Sports Anonymous". As a hobby I collect old Cleveland sports teams memorabilia.
From December 2009 to September 2012, I volunteered a few days each month at the Football Hall of Fame in Canton. I met many interesting people, both professional football players and tourist who came to see them. I still work the Hall of Fame Festival each year as a EMT.
As you can see from my last few pictures, that I have become involved with Irish-American relations. Don't ask me how, I just fell into it because of my Irish heritage and my interest in Irish history. In September 2011, I was appointed State Chairman for Catholic Action by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. In June 2013, I was elected a State Director for the AOH.
In September 2013, I was appointed to the Alumni Board at Youngstown State.
On the way to school, we would stop at the Partytime Doughnut shop on Coventry and buy a dozen doughnuts. We called them "bricks" because of their shape and we did not know their real name. I think they cost .99 a Dozen, how times have changed. Then we would sit in the parking lot across from Heights and eat the doughnuts or throw them at each other and BS until we were almost late for class.
Other times before and after school, we would line up at the light in front of Heights with our muscle cars and race down the street. You did not want to step off the curb when that light was getting ready to turn green.
