We had Millers and Fox bakeries. Where did you go for your buns and rolls?

Which was the bakery on the east side of Anderson?  My mom had worked there for a short time when we first moved to CP; ergo my loyalty.

Miller's was on the east side of Anderson Ave.  Wolf's was on the west.

Sorry no Fox bakery.

"Up on the Avenue" we had Wolff's and Miller's.  I had started to work at Wolff's the summer of my 9th grade.  Both my older brother and sister also worked there.  Wolff's was known for its hard rolls (and breads), and on Sunday morning (Miller's was closed on Sundays) we had lines around the block after each mass at Epiphany Church got out.  At Wolff's they had an ancient brick lined oven that was fired by gas.  When we all were young the rolls at Wolff's cost $.36 per dozen...does that seem possible!!!

Later on I also worked at Miller's for two years before I moved to California in '73.  Miller's was known to have better cakes, as their oven was more modern and made of stainless steel and better temperature controlled.

Both men treated me like family and I learned my trade from them.  I still use some of their recipes at my bakeries and restaurants and am proud to have worked there.

To continue,  Shinkle's had the best jelly donuts and cheesecake.  There also was a bakery in the Fair-Ridge Shopping center, (A&P and former Grant's 5 and 10 cents store called Sugarflake.

Absolutely nothing to do with bakeries, (although I loved the bread from Scala's and the pastries from Vesuvius sp?)  I just wanted to let Terie know that I love the picture of you, Joan and Mary Ann!  Looks like a pj party to me!  cd
