The world's largest salt water pool and summer daytime home to a bunch of CP kids (the evening home was #6, of course)!!!  Boards or Sand?

Boards of course! That was were all the locals hung out, it was close to the diving boards, lockers and food stands.

The sand were for the busloads of "visitors" from Queens and the Bronx.

Besides, who wanted dirty sand in our Bye Bye Bird ruffled bathing suits!

Randy Neumann was helping me lately with giving me advice for my boxing match recently.  he is still quite cool.  Didn't we go to the Park Pool on Tuesdays and Fridays, cause we got in cheaper?  How about swimming under the waterfall area, was that the best when we got to be old enough to do that!

Yes Pepe,  I think you are right about the reduced rates.  That came from the Rec Dept in CP.  Then there was a couple years when my parent s actually bought me a season pass.  Really thought we were cool with that.  Under the falls,  for special people only!

I saw Randy ref a couple of fights, it was awesome.

Under the falls - scary, but exciting...

The pool season was the cheapest form of summer daycare.  $35/$40 from Memorial Day to Labor Day - my mother never had to hire a babysitter for me or my younger brother Rick.  We'd pack a sandwich and a piece of fruit and off we'd go - or 50 cents for a burger and fries at the pool, but I'd save my $$ for fries with cider vinegar and or an orange sherbet cone on the way out of the park.

Oh for the carefree days...

Richie,

Going under the falls meant you had good lung capacity.

What was the thrill...going under or meeting someone to make out with on the other side?

You forgot....yeah, I bet

Remember how we use to decorate our lockers?

Randy also had the real great looking mom. I think she was a model. We all had the Italian mamas in mumus.

I don't know about the muumuu thing, G; my Mom wore pedal pushers and looked great in a swim suit!  And Joan's Mom and your Mom always looked great...

Decorating our lockers was necessary - the pool was our "home away from home" on those wonderful summer days...

Yeah. Our moms...but my two aunts...they wore mumus forever or was it a housecoat?

They wore housecoats or housedresses - my Grandmother (Mom's mom) too.  She had the ones she wore around the house and the ones she wore for going out (shopping on the Avenue or visiting family).  Regardless of which housedress it was, it was always immaculate, ironed and starched.  Around the house, she always had an apron tied around her waist and she was always cooking.  Little Grandma made the best bread, besides all those wonderful rustic Italian dishes.  Sadly, most of those recipes are lost...

How 'bout you - did you learn to cook from your Aunties?

I remember saving enough money to get a season pass to the pool. Going off the high dive and that unique smell of the locker room. I worked the lemonaid stand by the pool for 2 summers and feasted on french fries with vinager.

Gene - I would often stop for an order of fries on my way home from the park, after a long day at the pool.

I still can't decide if I like the orange or the lime sherbet - I just know I haven't been able to find sherbet of the same flavor and consistency (another favorite post-pool treat).

tuesday and
Thursday were nickel days that is when I would go with my sisters. I loves the water falls and the boards.I had so much fun there and wonderful memories. I loves ther orange sherbert cones  I only lives about 3 blocks from there so everynight we would hear the sound of the rides. Talking about mumus (housecoats) till this day my mom has not worn pants she has her housecoats and everyday dresses. Anyone remember the Aand P on Anderson Ave. They would give out green stamps and we would collect them and put them in a book to redeem later on. My mom still lives in Cliffside Park boy is it different!!!!

OMG!  We all have the same memories of the Pool!  What a great place to grow up...

I used to go to the A&P with my mom and my grandmother - it was so cool to save the green stamps...
