Following graduation, I attended O.U. and got a double bachelors degree in piano and voice and then studied in Europe for a year before returning to OU to get my masters in 1986. I dabbled in pageants for a while and made it to the top 10 of Miss Oklahoma the year Susan Powell went on to become Miss America. (Five years ago, Susan and I ended up doing a concert together in Oklahoma!)
After graduating with my masters, I taught piano as adjunct faculty at OBU for a couple of years while running a full-time piano studio in Norman and free-lancing as a dinner/jazz pianist and playing some classical concerts with a duo partner.
In 1996, I began composing piano and choral music and have now have music with seven publishers. I play part-time at Westminster Presbyterian in OKC and have a jazz group that plays across the metro for various events across the metro. I sing in a professional group in OKC and have appeared as a pianist on the Brown-Bag-It Concert Series at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center since 1990, as well as the OK Mozart Festival and the Bernsen Concert Series in downtown Tulsa. Come to our concert at the PAC this year on 4/15/09!
I met my husband in 1996 in the church choir at McFarlin Methodist in Norman. We finally tied the knot two years ago. He has three grown children and is close to retiring at his 3rd career. We enjoy traveling (both here and abroad)
and are active as hosts for international students with the university.
In 2000, I closed my studio downtown and now teach at home. I've been an active Rotarian for 12 years and stay busy volunteering at my church and in my community. We are big St. Louis Cardinals fans and of course, we are big Sooner fans!
I lost my mother several years ago to a stroke but my dad just celebrated his 92nd birthday last week. He still lives at home and attends the Methodist Church in Collinsville.
