I, like many othres, was very sad to learn of Marie Jones death.  Although I hadn't seen or heard any news about her in many years I still have very fond memories of her, her smile, her sparkly eyes, her infective laugh and of the times we shared.  She was a very special young lady, loved by many and she will be greatly missed.

Knew Marie jones from Sam Houston days.  Beautiful person, always kind, pleasant.  Obvious well thought of by all, with class recognitions and the many who have written on her passing. All will miss her.

Prayer request from Judy Langford Mellenbruch

"On Sunday I was given news of Gary by his sister who lives here. She asked me to report this to the class,. She said that Gary is very ill, after having suffered 3 strokes, unknown to him or his wife! He finally went to a doctor who diagnosed the problem. He is improving slowly, but has all the problems associated with having a stroke. They would appreciate thoughts and prayers.

John Smittle

this is John Smittle.  I just reread the forum pages and recognized so many friends from so long ago.  I hope that the powers that be will be able to put a reunion together in 2019 ( that will be upon us so soon). I anticipate seeing all of you that are still around next year.

I live on a canal in Cudjoe Key, FL (20 miles from Key West) after 20 years flying aircraft carrier based jets for the navy and about 15 years as owner/manager/chief laundry officer of a bareboat sailing charter business in Key West. My favorite customer is now my wife of 26+ years, Christina. We each brought a son (mine is 50, hers is 44) to the marriage. I still love sailing, though ,nowadays, my balance isn't what I would like it to be. Hurricane Irma (9/10/2017) went directly accross Cudjoe Key but building codes here were strict when I built in 1985 and the surge was less than 4'.  We did lose a lot of foliage. John,

I hope our paths cross since it seems that we have a lot to talk about.  I spent 25 years as a controller in Houston Center, the after retirement, my wife and I floated off on our boat for 12 years of cruising.  We spent a lot of time in the Fla Keys.  It would be fun to exchange stories.

Budgie's obituary from the San Antonio Express News:

Nelson Wray, Jr was born in 1941 to Nelson Wray, Sr. and Lou Clement Tolson along with his older brother Joseph T. Wray. He grew up in Corpus Christi where he graduated from Ray High School. He was a Kappa Sigma at Southern Methodist University where he graduated with a degree in business. After his time in the Coast Guard, he married Patricia Garnett. They had 10 children together. He spent his career at Nelson Wray investments.

He found a strong faith in knowing and telling others about Jesus, leading his wife and 10 children to Christ.

He left behind, the mother of his children, all ten of his children, 34 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his older brother and numerous nieces and nephews.

He has found peace.

I too am saddened at the news of Budgie Wray.  We shared a number of things, especially senior year, but what    I most fondly recall were our Sunday evening "dining" experiences.  Each week we'd head out Ayres St. to a Cafeteria (Luby's?? Memory has faded a bit) which featured an all-you-can-eat for 99 cents.  I know the restaurant lost money hosting a couple of teenage boys to eat as much as they liked for that price!  It was always fun to be with him, jello and all.  A very keen mind and with it wit and an ability to produce acerbic criticism when he was motivated.  May he rest in peace.

Some of us are talking about trying to arrange a get-together, maybe in the fall and probably in central Texas somewhere.  Not a big deal, just an informal arrangement and chance to visit at least one more time.  Would you be interested?  If so, please message me!  My email address is txbroker@satx.rr.com

Hello, fellow Texans -

The "mini" reunion is now planned and I am trying to get the word out!  It will be Tuesday, Oct. 25 - Thursday, Oct. 27 at the YO Ranch Hotel in Kerrville.  Very nice hotel and they are giving us a room rate of $109, which is great!  Please email me at txbroker@satx.rr.com if you want to be put on the mailing list so I can send you all the details.  Share with any others you think might be interested, too!

thanks,

To all of you that wished me a Happy Birthday or have sent me a message in the past that I failed to answer, please accept my sincere apologies. I truly have no excuse. I'm interested in attending the Mini Reunion, but the registration page appears to have been deleted. Is it still going to occur? If so should i just call the hotel and who should I send the funds to? Once again I apologize.

Weldon,

An update to the reunion planned for October 24 – 26 in Kerrville at the YO Ranch Hotel:

This time we are going to “streamline” things a bit to make it simpler for all who attend.  The dinner on the last night (Wednesday Oct 25) will not be at the hotel as it was last year.  This year we will go to Billy Jean’s Restaurant in Kerrville instead; they have a room large enough to accommodate us and everyone can order what they want from the extensive menu, paying by separate check at the end of the evening. This eliminates the need for mailing checks in earlier and also provides an opportunity for those who may have dietary restrictions to satisfy those.  It will be fun and relaxing.

 Best, Mary Anne (Park) Owens

Weldon Melugin (-Stewart)

Hello fellow Texans, since I'm headed to the Reunion in Kerrville, I thought I'd provide a short explanation of why my name is now Joe Stewart instead of Weldon Melugin. Unfortunately I was named after the man who was married to my Mother when I was born. He was an abusive and mean person so my Mother left him when I was five years old and moved to Corpus Christi. Fortunately several years later she met a wonderful man named Chester Stewart. He became my Father as far as I was concerned; he tried to adopt me but was thwarted with threats of a legal fight that would have been both costly and time consuming. However since I was about 10 years old I knew of my rights when I became an adult, so I made a promise to him that I would legally change my name when I turned 21, and that's what I did. On my 21st birthday I went to court and legally changed my name from Joseph Weldon Melugin Jr. to Joseph Weldon Stewart and now I'm Joe Stewart. I didn't want to have anything to do with my birth name out of respect to the man I always considered my Father. RIP Dad.
