School Story:
My years at Spruce were some of the greatest years of my life. I had so much fun there! It's hard to pinpoint just one particuliar story to tell. It was always something crazy going on at Spruce, especially in the hallways before & between classes. My kids refer to me as "Throw Back" because I'm always telling them about things that happened "Back N tha Day"(music, dances, movies, slangs ect.). It wasn't just Spruce itself, but it was living in "Tha Grove" period. Things like hanging out at Twilight Skating Rank or The Buckner Bowl, Bruton Movie Theater(better known as "The Dollar Movie"). And after you finished hanging you could always get the best burgers at Griff's. It was nothing better than friday night football. I can still remember putting that Red, Blue & Silver uniform on, getting on the bus on our way to Forster Field House. I still remember the feeling of butterflies in the pit of my stomach when I heard the roar of the crowd as we ran out onto the field. I was nervous, scared & excited all at the same time because I knew that if I didn't "bring it" I had a whole lot of people to answer to, namely the entire population of Spruce High School. I can still remember standing in my closet at night trying to pick out just the right outfit to wear to school. I had to look "Fresh" at all cost (lol). Not, just because I wanted to impress the "Fly Honies" but because if you wore something jacked-up you were going to get clowned all day long! Yes, it was a great time in my life, one that I will always cherish. I think about those times and it makes me smile. But, I also feel sad because our children will never have the fun that we had. It was a cool time back then and I thank God for it. HGS 4-Lyfe!
