Darlene Jones, by way of my first marriage, used to call me Aunt Marsha, when she introduced me and my ex-husband (her uncle). I would crack up laughing because she knew she was a few months older than me. I didn't know her well at Patterson, but once married into the family, learned first-hand of her most warm, loving, respectful, friendly and funny nature! I loved her so much. We'd sit at her house some nights (over the course of those years) talking about men, family, Tia... She was so funny. Now I see why she and Wanda were such close friends, she was indeed a true one.

She was a nurse at the VA, and was walking with the Lord at the time of her passing.

I remember Darlene being in Mr. Ziegler's English Class. (That was a great class!) She was kind of quiet, but would giggle and laugh with the rest of us.

A couple years ago, I went to a local Debutante Ball and Darlene's daughter was presented as a Deb. I know Darlene would have been so proud!

I met Darlene actually in the fifth grade. Darlene, Carmen Allen, and I were as thick as theives back then. We all lived within walking distance of each other, so we rode the same bus, and hung out after school (if I was allowed) for years. She was truly a special person. She was always like "the mama", and wise beyond her years. I had the opporturnity to reconnect with her a couple of years before her death. It was great to see her and meet her daughter. I really do miss her, she will always be considered one of my dearest friends.
