School Story:
Too many to get them all but I will try...
The Incredible Mrs. Britton, the best teacher I've ever had in any subject!
Walking down the hall singing with Natalie...
The big speech at Stivers about how only one out of three of us would make it to Patterson...
Shawn offering me some "protection" for my trip to Kings Island with almost $3000 to pickup the Grad Night tickets...
Michael's World Of Coca-Cola Museum in the Arcade...
Those amazing VICA field trips and the McDonald's uniforms we had to wear...
Benita Smith, Jennifer Featherston, Sherri Stonerock and Sharon Stovall's smiles...
The trick Leonard Kirby taught me on how to send a letter to someone without a stamp...
Collette King always jumping on my case...
Always competing with Terra Banks...
Always arguing with Kim Williams...
Hanging out in Trig with "Prairie Dog" (she knows) ...
The amazingly personal "suggestion" DaVita Cook left in my locker (it wasn't a note)...
Chuckling about the fact that our wrestling coach used to be Duffy the Dog on Clubhouse 22 (a show I was on once as well)...
Rich's Pawn Shop - "A Dollar Down, A Dollar a week"...
NEVER eating lunch in the cafeteria. I only accidentally discovered that we actually had one in the school when Mr. Kelly sent me there to pickup a tray of brownies he had ordered...
Tearing up and throwing the index cards in the air at the Election assembly. Two facts. One, the only thing written on those cards was "Tear up and throw in air at start of speech". Two, I still do it and I get the same response every time. That one act got me a part in the Senior play, no joke. When I actually need cards for a speech, then I will know I am truly old...
Hanging out at the National VICA competition with my "brother" Otis Brooks...
Being selected for the Beautillion Militaire. Once that happened, I could not believe the number of young ladies that wanted to be my escort. I was popular with the ladies for about three weeks. (smile) Did not even know what the Beautillion was until Mr. Sumner told me about it...and the $1,000 scholarship involved. Well, Michelle Reed agreed to be my escort and I did get the scholarship. But I didn't ask the one young lady (she knows) I really wanted to go with because of a misunderstanding. So, it was a good and bitter evening...
Always thinking that Mr. McKnight was "partying" all the time because he seemed "too mellow". And his advice to, "Marry an ugly woman because she will never leave you" seemed a bit odd, even from him...
All of the young ladies I had secret crushes on (good secrets remain just that, secret)....
Mr. Sumner, the guidance counselor that really did change my life by helping me obtain enough scholarships to take care of most of my college...
Spending all of that time Graduation Night going over everyone's name so the assistant principal could get it right but never bothered to check mine...my middle name is not Elbert...
That same night, the bittersweet realization that this would be the last time I would see a lot of people I considered friends...
Everyone that had a kind word for the pimple-faced kid that carried a briefcase...
to be continued...
