Activities

During our reunion there will be activities available at the Inn as well as coordinated golf and fishing outings.  Below you will find some detailed information on what's available.

(There are also many attractions in the local area you might want to explore and a handful of them are highlighted on the Local Area page of the website for your convenience.)

AT THE INN

  • Pool
The inn features a heated pool surrounded by wood decks and plenty of lounge chairs. We will be bringing a small baby pool for those who may not be ready to go in the big pool by themselves. You will want to bring your own beach towels and life vests/arm floaties as they are not provided by the inn. Emily will be coordinating and bringing pool play items for the kids.

  • Firepit
Tucked into the wooded area of the property, the inn has a fire pit for our use. Once we get there we will go into town to get wood. The makings of s'mores will be provided.

  • Lawn
The backside of the inn is 2 acres of open lawn. We will be bringing lawn games like polish horseshoes (ie washer toss) and ladder ball.

  • Beach
The beach is just a short walk down the road (less than 1/2 mile). One can drive their car to beach for drop-offs, but parking is very limited (only a few spots). We will be providing sun shades/tents, beach chairs, sand toys, coolers and a wagon to make the trip to the beach a pleasant one.

Another area beach is the New Buffalo City Beach and Lakefront Park. This beach/park facility features dunes, wooden walkways, restrooms, snack bar, playground, picnic benches, paved car parking.

  • Kids Activities
Emily has offered to coordinate/bring supplies for kid projects as well as toys for the pool and yard. Thanks, Em!

  • Poker/Euchre Tournaments
Jim and Molly will be bringing their playing card decks and poker chips for some friendly evening betting.

  • Family Photo

We have hired a photographer to come to the inn to shoot family photographs on Thursday, Aug. 19th because everyone will be on property that day. We will be taking the big group shots and then individual family photographs. We are asking that everyone wear a white top (t-shirt, polo shirt, tank top, anything white!) and a khaki color bottom (shorts, skirt, pants). When shooting such a large group, a neutral clothing palette helps create a visual cohesiveness that allows the individual faces to stand out. So we'd really appreciate it if everyone could find a white top and khaki bottom in their closet.

As you could imagine it is not possible with the little ones to have one very long photo session. So I am working with the photographer to create a schedule for the day so everyone can have enough time to get the photos they want. We will then come together to do the large group shots. And to address the question everyone asks...we will have a group shot with everyone in attendance, then one with only family.

When the photo schedule gets worked out, I will post it on the website.

After the event the you will be able to view and order prints on the photographer's website.

OFF PROPERTY

  • Golf

Mark Kleinlein will be organizing golf outings for those that are interested. He found 2 decent public courses in the area.  Information on the courses and their greens fees:

Lake Michigan Hills
Benton Harbor, MI

Greens fee: $40-$55
Club rental: $20

36 miles from Inn; 54 min drive
Always rated at the top of the southwest Michigan public golf courses, Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club has consistently received the 4 star rating from Golf Digest's - Best Places to Play. Lake Michigan Hills is located in the Benton Harbor/St. Joseph area and celebrates over 40 years of golf service to the community. The course architect, Charles Maddox, Sr., treats the golfer with many elevation changes, generous tree-lined fairways, and large undulated greens. The clubhouse and banquet facility is located high on top of a bluff overlooking the golf course.

Whittaker Woods
New Buffalo, MI

Greens fee: $55-$89
Club rental: $25

8 miles from Inn; 13 min drive
An 18-hole championship course that plays to 7,072 yards from the tips, Whittaker Woods was designed by the late Ken Killian, the legendary architect behind Kemper Lakes. Like many upscale tracks of the modern era, Whittaker Woods is formidable enough, boasting a slope rating of 144 from the back tees, to challenge the most avid golfers, yet features multiple tee placements allowing golfers of all abilities to partake and have fun. Indeed, the course plays under 5,000 yards from the front tees and has been cited by Michigan Golf as offering “great, playable golf for everyone.”

If you are interested in playing either or both of these courses, please email Mark to let him know or post your interest on the golf section of the Discussion Board. Once tee times open up in early August, Mark will coordinate day and tee times with those interested.

  • Fishing

Jim Anson is coordinating a fishing outing for those interested. Each boat costs $500 plus tip and can accommodate 6 people. The cost for each person going out would be approx. $90. This price could more if each boat isn't filled to capacity. If you are interested email Jim or post your interest on the fishing section of the Discussion Board. As Jim determines the group's interest he will be able to select the day and provide you with more detailed information on departure times, etc...
