Chris was a friend of mine at UNC. He was known simply as "Surfer" because he loved to surf.
He didn't really like Carolina, so he enrolled in an art or photography school (?) out west...New Mexico?
Anyway, I was having a drink with a friend of mine in NYC some 40 or so years ago when he asked me if I had heard about Chris's death. I had not. Apparently he was driving back from school to NY where he resided and he fell asleep at the wheel. That's all I was told, and it may be inaccurate in some minor details.
He was a spirited fellow; it's a great tragedy when people meet such young and untimely ends.
Chris's death was noted in the Alumni Journal quite a few years ago. If I remember correctly he was involved in a motorcycle accident. Regardless, it is always sad to lose a friend.
