Children: | Christopher, born 1983; Casey, born 1985; Nicholas, born 1987 And as of November 6, 2010, I am mother-in-law More…to Christopher Mailman - my third son! On May 10, 2012, we lost our oldest son, Christopher, which has altered our lives immeasureably - he was a sweet, sensitive, fun-loving and much loved member of our family - he lives on always in our hearts. On April 21, 2013, our first granddaughter, Hailey Alice, daughter of Casey and her husband, Chris, arrived to fill our hearts with joy. |

Let's see - after ELHS, I went to William and Mary in Virginia for two years, indulging my love for history but finding out that I am far from a Southern belle!! I transferred to Mount Holyoke, graduating in 1978. I thought I would eventually go to Law School, but ended up getting hired into the programming training pool at MassMutual. I've been doing that for the last 31 years - not always at MM - and now design and build data marts/warehouses (seriously - YAWN!!!)
I married John in 1980, we bought a house on Day Ave (next door to Mike Flynn's parents) and welcomed Christopher (1983) and Casey (1985) to our little family while there. We moved to East Village Road in 1986 and I soon found out why I felt so sick while we were moving - Nicholas arrived in 1987. They are great kids - yes, they are adults but still my babies!
My mom still lives on Senator Drive, the site of quite a few crazy parties (but she still doesn't know, so don't tell her!). My wonderful dad passed away in 1992 and of course is still greatly missed. He was the best dad and the life of the party!
It's still fun to see my "old" friends - whenever we get together it's like we just saw each other yesterday. Jo-Ann, Betsy, Julie, Leslie and I have had a few girl's weekends over the years and they were a blast. Now that our nests are emptying, we have no excuse not to do it more often - and I promise to be a better planner! Same thing with our nights on the town, including Tim and Charlie and whoever else can put up with us - let's not get out of touch.
I'm sometimes surprised that I still live in East Longmeadow - and sometimes not surprised at all. It's still a great town and I'm so good at driving thru the Rotary now, there's no point in moving out!! I'll know I'm old when I drive the wrong way around that sucker!
High school was so much fun - it's hard to put it all down - so I'll take the random thought approach! Let's see ... SOME people driving Senor Dowling crazy in Spanish class ("¡usted es animales!!"), earth shoes and fringe purses, summer days with Helen in Lee, hiking with Kathy Runquist looking for those "senior" guys!, driving aimlessly for hours through EL when gas was 55 cents a gallon, Spartanum with Jo-Ann and laughing until our sides were sore, getting sent to Mr. Hart's office for being "mean" to Mr. Sarazin, getting a detention for parking in the "teacher's" parking lot on the very first day I ever drove to school (I thought I parked next to Warren's yellow karmen ghia (?) but it was Miss Somebody's!), working on the yearbook ads, parties at Julie's, skinnydipping in the McGovern's pool and getting caught, never getting to go to the Dike (maybe that wasn't such a bad thing afterall??), watching really bad old scifi movies on the couch in the Lester Street Easter Egg house with Jo-Ann, Charlie and Jane ("this smells like tarantula venom"), football games, basketball games, Betsy's big ol' blue station wagon running out of gas on the South End Bridge on the way to a hockey game (or the other hockey trip, with my sweater burning), Kim's slo-mo ice skid into a telephone pole on Day Avenue in HER big ol' white convertible (she hadn't yet learned to turn INTO a skid!!), driving to the beach in Jane's big ol' blue convertible (wait! did we ALL have big ol' cars back then??!), Mr. Legs warmups at Rand's, smoking cigars at the senior banquet, writing the class will and testament, fun at the Prom and the sleepover at my house afterwards (and Chuck and David dancing in the dark on the back porch), breakfast in the morning and then off to the coldest day at the beach - EVER!!!, graduation parties at Cheri's and Connie's and Cathy's (is that where we went??), throwing up on Jo-Ann's front lawn after those parties and then landing in the hospital the next morning (I was basically seriously ill - but who knew???). It was all great - even those tear-inducing times that I won't recount here - so much fun, heartache, joy, heartbreak, love and friendship. I'm glad that we still have the opportunity to get together and reminisce - see you in October!
