Brooke and I were best friends in grade school. Her mom was especially nice to me, a geeky girl who was fat and wore glasses and had no self-esteem. I often think of her kindness toward me. Brooke and I lost touch as we got to high school but she was a terrific friend and I'm sad to see she's gone.
