Lewis Rice, Jr.
(October 14, 1933 - May 14, 2013)

Lewis “Coach” Rice Jr., 79, of Fort Pierce, FL died Tuesday May 14, 2013 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 14, 1933 in Wabasso, FL and has been a lifetime resident of Saint Lucie County.

Lewis attended the local school of Martin and Saint Lucie County, graduating with the class 1953 from Lincoln Park Academy. He furthered his education at FAMU graduating in 1958.

He retired after teacher 34 Years at Fort Pierce Central High School. He coached for 25 Years beginning at Martin County High School and his tenure at Fort Pierce Central High School.

Lewis was a member of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church where he served on the Male Usher Board.

Survivors include his wife, Daisy Rice, of Fort Pierce, FL; son, Lewis Rice IV of Fort Pierce, FL; daughters, Patricia Brockington, Latrecia Marshea Rice, both of Fort Pierce, FL; brothers, Otis Rice of Fort Lauderdale, Daniel Rice of PA; sisters, Minister Agnes Smith of TX, Rosie Ciceron of Riviera Beach, FL, Carey Anderson, Barbara Rice, Dorothy English all of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Elise Bolden of PA, Mary Lee Rice of AL; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, LaWanna Rice-Snow, mother, Hattie Barnes and father, Lewis Rice Sr., three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be held 3 to 7PM Friday May 17, 2013 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11AM Saturday May 18, 2013 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
