Happy Birthday, Bob. You share a birthday with my daughter-in-law and within 6 days of my son, Tony. November is obviously a good month.

Bob,

Your birthday card arrived at our place in Florida today. We spend 4 months a year here trying to get away from the the lake effect snows of Pentwater, Michigan. Heading back to Michigan on Easter weekend. At one time my German was great but I seldom use it since I studied at the Univerity of Bonn. While studying Portuguese in Rio Janeiro (we lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil for 4 years) I met a crippled Russian soldier who tried to talk to me in Portuguese but I was too new to the language to speak it well. I learned that he knew German so we used that foe awhile until my Portuguese improved enough to converse in that form. We were also in East Africa for 4 years so my Swahili was reasonably good as well. But never learned Arabic well enough to feel comfortable speaking it when we lived in Egypt.
You must have served in Germany or maybe learned it at home. When were kids never thought about ever speaking a foreign tongue.
