Memories : By Carol Lajoie Miller, wife of Larry Miller

Larry passed away in our home in Bush, Louisiana on June 8, 2017, from natural causes due to several years of issues with his heart.

Larry had been a Veteran SPEC 4 in the US Army. During his tour in Vietnam, he was assigned as driver for the officers. His wish was to be buried in a National Cemetery. He was interred with full military honors in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery,

34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, Louisiana.

For his career, Larry was an over-the-road truck driver.

After his return from Vietnam, Larry and I dated. After a few months, we ended going our separate ways. I had one daughter Lorine, while Larry had three children, Andrea, Robert and Russell. Several years later, we were each divorced.

When my daughter was 18, to save money to put herself through college, she got a job working for a food truck in the lot at Anchor Freight.  Larry happened to work for Anchor Freight.  After many conversations at lunchtime, Larry realized Lorine was my daughter. She was excited and asked him to stop by my home to visit. The rest is history!  We were happily married for 30 years until his death.

We loved motorcycling and purchased a 2004 Harley Davidson Road King. One of our favorite trips was in 2007, when we took the bike to Florida to visit Bikeoberfest.

We moved for a few years to Wareham where I worked at the Post Office, and Larry started his own trucking business. We loved our time there.

Larry’s daughter Andrea had joined the US Army where she was stationed in Hawaii as an underwater welder. After her time in the service, she settled in Louisiana. Larry and I had been considering a move South and decided to look for property nearby.

We were lucky to find a home with three acres of land in a wooded area in Louisiana.  We purchased a 2007 Harley Davidson Road King and had fun heading out on our bike across Louisiana and nearby Mississippi, especially enjoying our rides at Christmas time.

We had many good years. It was worrisome when Larry’s health declined but it never stopped him. He kept his sense of humor, happy when he made others laugh.

One last funny story….. Larry, a devoted Ford Fan, always loved messing with Chevy owners. One day when Larry was working at a local Nappa Auto Parts Store in Covington, he was asked to make a delivery to a Chevy Dealer. Being amidst the competition did not bother him at all. He proceeded to razz the workers at the dealership.  When he got back to Nappa, his boss was laughing. He said the owner of the dealership called demanding Larry be fired.  His boss decided he would not send Larry on that delivery again.

Since Larry’s death, I have remained at our home in Louisiana. I continue to have fond memories of my formative years in Framingham and was excited to be contacted by the North High Reunion Committee to send memories and photos of Larry for the 56th Class Reunion.
