In Memory

Nicholas Smith

I've been trying to find something out to put here for Nick, but have been unsuccessful.  The year of his death (1986) was provided by the 10 year reunion booklet.

Thanks,

Pherby

Nick was the first of our classmates who I heard had left us and I was floored by the news. Nich had that quick sense of humor that I would compare to Hawkeye on MASH played by Alan Alda and I really admired him for that quality.

I was stunned to hear of Nick's death. We had Biology together. Nick was one of the nicest guys in the world. I know your family misses you. I will see you again in heaven.

Sadly, Nicholas took his own life in 1986.  This information is from his sister Victoria.

He had been burned severely and recovered , but the mental damage it did outweighed the external damage. So I guess he just couldn't face the mirror any more. He took his life and ended his journey here on earth. He was such a nice guy. What a shame.

I had no idea this happened to Nick. Then again, it wasn't my business. But, I can say, everyone handles things that affect themselves differently, whether it be hurting physically, emotionally, mentally or all of the above. Unfortunately, some people are dealt a bad hand and don't know how to handle it. I get that. Rives, you're probably right. I just hate to see or hear about someone hurting so much to that extent. May he be free of his pain and be at rest now. R.I.P. Nick

I remember Nick fondly as a warm and friendly guy with a quick wit and a delightful sense of humor. The world is diminished by having lost him. Such deaths are never forgotten. Rest in peace, my dear friend, and may your friends and family be comforted.

Nick was one of my closest friends at Page. If you overheard him talking about subjects he favored- like girls at the beach and rock and roll- you might have thought he was one dimensional. But that's hardly the case.  He came from an interesting and welcoming family.  As an example of welcoming, I remember once going into his house to make a sandwich for myself when he wasn't even there.  Nick's the first person I would have called if I needed someone I could count on.  As others have said in ther memories, he was quick witted and funny. We had dozens of things that made us laugh.  Like Steve Martin, Nick used to joke that his cat was stealing from him at night.  Impressively, Nick could make an open field football tackle around the ankles. He taught me how to play the guitar.  He forgave me when I go a little too interested in his girlfriend.  I could go on, but I'll just say that his too short life is a loss. He's missed.
