Quick synopsis: Went to Delta State. Married Buddy (he lived across the street from me in Greenville then moved to Tunica, MS). Had 2 kids. Worked for Plant Pathology & Weed Science Dept. at MSU while Buddy went to school for his degree. Moved to Atlanta for 2 years. Buddy worked in sales, but when they wanted him to transfer to Buffalo, NY, we moved back to Jackson. He worked again in sales and I worked for an insurance agency for a few years. Then for a law firm for 10 years. In between the "law" years, we had another child (Oops!). Just the usual things.
Then we decided to move to Byram, MS where my husband and I went into business for ourselves. We went into land development, real estate, and building (both residential and commercial). An opportunity came along for us to buy 2 utility companies, and we did. In 2000 we built a home on some family land, and moved ourselves and our office to Crystal Springs. Our kids and grandkids followed. We have been very busy, needless to say, for quite some time. It is quite a bonus to own your own companies, and have your children working in them along with you. We have never had to miss any function in which our kids or grandkids have participated.
Our oldest granddaughter, Meagan,, is at Ole Miss majoring in Art. Another grandaughter, Lexie, is a Tri Delta at USM majoring in Family Counseling. Our oldest grandson, Houston is a Kappa Sig at Ole Miss and major in broadcast journalism. The two step grandsons both work. The oldest just had is first baby and the younger one works with my son in the construction industry. The younger grandchildren are still in high school, Junior High, grammar school, kindergarten or too young to attend school at all.
When we are not working, we travel. We have been on several cruises, but our favorite way to travel is by car. We went into our second childhood, and bought a red convertible about a year ago. We love taking driving trips in it. Mostly out west (New Mexico, Arizona and Utah are our favorites -- but the other states are no slouches). Vermont is also a favorite with the leaves in the fall. On our first trip after "the purchase" we had to stop to let the top up when it started snowing and it dropped to 45 degrees!
Of course, with as many grandkids as we have, Disney is a favorite with the small ones and New Orleans with the older ones. We recently bought some land around Compton, Arkansas and are building a cabin on a mountain there. The view is breathtaking. I hope we can spend a good bit of time up there. I think it will be condusive to the book Buddy has been wanting to write. And naturally I will type it for him so we will still be busy, but "fun stuff" busy.
By all accounts the health of my family has been good. I, on the other hand, have had 3 previous bouts with cancer. I am now fighting my fourth bout. I am very blessed so far since the only loss I have suffered is my hair which is growing back nicely, but quite gray, and my figure to steroids which I hope to be off of very soon. For any of you on Facebook, that explains the hat in my picture and my size. Even so, I consider myself very blessed and thankful for all God's blessings on me and my family.
