"Make new friends, but keep the old.  One is silver, the other is gold,"

Like so many of you, I have many golden memories of our friend, Mary Louise.

Mine begin as first graders playing jacks on ML’s big screened front porch on Washington Avenue, smelling delicious caramel cake always baking in her Nana’s kitchen, and continue until we reconnected in 2005 meeting for lunch several times in Jackson, MS, where she was living.  As with most golden friendships, we picked up where we left off…and especially enjoyed sharing pictures and stories about our grandchildren.  My husband, Mark, had heard me speak about Mary Louise, many times…and when he met her, he immediately felt a connection to my dear friend, ML.

Though Mary Louise won't be with us at the reunion, she will be in our hearts.

Mary Louise was my first "best friend".  I have many pictures of us taken pre-school.  Like Susan, I spent hours in the big green house on Washington Avenue.  What a facinating place, with all its secret hiding spots.  And her grandfather, the poet, giving his beloved Weezer or Weezie, he called her, a hug.  Such happy memories.  In my mind I can still hear her grandmother, Mrs. Francis, calling for ML to come in for the evening, "Mary LouEEEEEse!!!!!!  We went in different directions, but she was still our beautiful, smiling Mary Louise.
