In Memory

Raymond Clark

Many people recognize him from walking along streets and highways, both in Guntersville and Albertville. Raymond Jay Clark died of cancer Wednesday, June 28, 2017, in his Albertville home. He was 56.

Raymond grew up in Guntersville. His parents died when he was 9 years old, so he and his 5 brothers were raised in relatives’ homes and foster homes. A special-needs student, he graduated from Guntersville High School in 1979 and was MVP (most valuable player) of the track team his senior year.

Raymond worked at chicken plants for 25 years before leaving due to disability. Often, he walked many miles to and from work. Walking continued to be his favorite pastime. He would visit employees at stores and businesses along his route. In recent years, he would walk 15-20 miles daily. He called this "loafing.”

He is survived by 3 brothers, Jackie Clark (Carla), Mike Clark and Larry Clark, as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Donald Clark and Danny Clark.

Carr Funeral Home directed a graveside service Friday at Weaver Cemetery.
