This message is an urgent reminder that the deadline for paying your class reunion fees is Monday, June 24th. 

Please look for the PayPal icon on our class webpage this week and click to pay your fees or you may mail me a check made payable to GHS Class of 1979. My address is:

Good Morning!

I hope this message finds everyone well!

This is a long message. Please read.

Pictures from high school, from ANY and ALL of the Reunions are needed.

ALSO! CURRENT PHOTOS OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES...even if it's just a cell phone pic!

PLEASE submit even if you are NOT able to attend the reunion you can be there with your favorite family photographs! I will take photos all the way up to July 18!

PICTURES WANTED!!!!

I have volunteered to create a pictorial digital view book to be shown during the reunion and I will attach it to our class reunion website.

I need:

Current Photos:

2 to 3 (or more) of you and if possible one of them a current headshot like a school photo.

3 to 5 of you with your family (on vacation, family reunion even an “Olan Mills” style Photo).

I have some individual and family photos in separate file folders from our 40th Reunion. I’ve attached a screenshot of those names.

I can reuse your individual photos. However, unless you tell me it’s okay, I feel uncomfortable in reusing family or group photos because I won’t know if your life circumstance may have changed (i.e... a divorce or the passing of a loved one).

David Berry, Kenneth Lambert and Robert Mayo are the only people to let me know that I can use their folder of photos from the 40th reunion.

So, give me a yes or no as soon as possible.

If you don't remember what photos you've sent to me, let me know and I can send a screenshot of those pics in your folder.

If you graduated from another school and have a yearbook photo, PLEASE send it to me!

I am asking for photographs of people and events from and of our class. This includes teachers.

We will also honor those classmates who have passed away.

Most of you know by now that we have a website specific to our class. It has been created to not only help us with our get together, but it will also help us stay in touch well past our 45thclass reunion. It has some great and fun features I think you will enjoy. Your names and basic information have already been in been added. All you will have to do is to create a password and log in. As a member you have the option to change or update ANYTHING in your profile.

Cindy and I are the administrators for the site, and you will receive an e-mail from one of us that will complete your membership.

Follow-Up Message from Class President Mitch Shelton

Hello Everyone.

I would like to address a question some of you have raised about the location of our first reunion event that is scheduled on Friday evening July 19th at Chandler Branch.

Although Chandler Branch has a Scottsboro address, it  is located approximately 3 miles just beyond the Guntersville city limits after you turn onto Highway 79 North at the “Y” in Claysville. 

I assure you all that the drive to Chandler Branch will be well worth the fun you will have at this amazing venue. As I noted in my letter below that Robert re-posted from our class webpage (thank you Robert), there will be live entertainment, food and non-alcoholic beverages at no cost to you. 

Let me again encourage all of you to attend our reunion events this year. If you aren’t able to attend both scheduled events, then please try to attend one.

A Message from Class President Mitch Shelton

Hello GHS Class of 1979!

I hope all of you are doing well my dear friends. I would like to take this opportunity to invite each of you to attend our upcoming 45-year class reunion. I highly encourage you all to mark your calendars and make plans to attend our reunion events on July 19th and 20th. The dress code for both reunion events will be casual.

Our first event will be held Friday, July 19th beginning at 6:30 in the evening at a beautiful venue called Chandler Branch located off Highway 79 North. There is no cost to attend this event. Food, non-alcoholic beverages and live entertainment will be provided so don’t miss this fun gathering! Anyone wishing to consume alcoholic beverages may BYOB. The owner has asked that we please DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS!

Our main reunion event will be held Saturday evening July 20th at the Lake Guntersville State Park beginning at 5:00 through 10:00 p.m. in the Goldenrod room. The cost to attend this event will be $50.00 per person or $100.00 per couple. We will have a sit-down dinner consisting of prime rib, three vegetables, a salad, a dessert and non-alcoholic soft drinks.

A class portrait will be taken at 5:15 on the balcony so please be on time so you do not miss being in the class photo. You can purchase an 8X10 photo from photographer Craig LeCroy for $20 or pay $25 for an 8X10 photo to include a jump drive.

The state park will provide a bartender for anyone wishing to consume alcohol. IMPORTANT NOTE! NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL OR FOOD will be allowed into the lodge under any circumstance. Anyone failing to adhere to this strict policy may be asked to leave and the class could be fined for any violation(s).

The deadline for paying your reunion fees is June 24th. I encourage everyone to please respond promptly no later than this date since this will allow us to report the number of meals the park kitchen staff will have to prepare, and it will also minimize the risk of over/under estimating our number of attendees/meals.

I want to emphasize that no class member(s) will be turned away from attending our Saturday evening event if they are unable to afford the $50 per person fee due to financial hardship. The committee and I are in full agreement that our class will fund any class member(s) who may be experiencing a financial hardship. If you or any class member you know needs to have your reunion fee waived, then please do not hesitate to contact me CONFIDENTIALLY at mitchrshelton119@gmail.com or phone or text me at (256) 572-7714. YOUR REQUEST WILL BE KEPT STRICTLY CONFIDENTAIL. Please do not allow financial hardship to keep you away from our class reunion. Your presence is very important to make our class reunion special and memorable!

Also on our reunion agenda is a planned tour of the new building renovations at Guntersville High. Anyone interested in attending will need to meet at Roy Rolling’s Gateway Group accounting office (the former Chicken Shack building across from GHS) on Saturday July 20th at 2:00.

As I close, I would like to make an appeal for financial donations to our GHS Class of 1979 checking account. These funds are used to purchase flowers for deceased classmates or cover any costs for administering our class webpage. If you are financially able to contribute, you may write a separate check made payable to the GHS Class of ’79 and mail it to me along with your reunion fees. You may also contribute funds by using our PayPal account found on the homepage of our website.

In closing, I want to strongly encourage each and every member of our class to attend our 45-year class reunion on July 19th/20th. We have two beautiful venues to host our events this year and fun activities planned, however, none of that matters IF YOU ARE NOT THERE! We have lost many of our precious classmates since we graduated in 1979. Please be there and lets all reminisce and embrace our time together! Life is short and time is precious so I hope and pray to see you all there my dear friends. I am honored and humbled to be President of the Guntersville High School Class of 1979….the greatest class ever! May God richly bless and keep you my friends.
