Enlisted in the Army after tiring of college in 1988. Spent 9 years enlisted then went to Warrant Officer school.
Two combat tours, the last one in Baghdad stuck in between Sadir City, Ahbu Grahib, and Baath party headquarters. We got shelled and assaulted incessantly and had a 20% attrition rate. The oddest thing about it is not a single man in my platoon was seriously wounded. I'm not a big religious type but I firmly believe all the prayers that were directed at me and my men allowed us to survive some pretty harsh engagements and all come home in one piece.
Both of my combat tours were with the same men, most of us are still in contact.
Can't say I recommend war but I would not trade the experience or brothers I made during those times.
I attended college off and on during my Army career and retired with 65 credit hours. I recently quit my government civilian job to return to school. My 65 credits got whittled down to 6 lol so I'm basically starting over, it seems things like my 1995 computer class is no longer relevant.
My wife was smart and completed her Masters degree in clinical social work back in 1994. No children but that was by design since we were both very career oriented.
