Cathey and I became friends in 5th or 6th grade. I remember that she and her mother lived in a small room behind her mother's hair salon on Warburton Avenue. It was a small space, but they had an upright piano where Cathey played and practiced. I was enthralled by (and envious of) her beautiful singing voice. She came to our 25th or 30th reunion, and at that time was working as a jazz singer. She was a lovely, kind and oh so talented  woman.

Cathey was my best friend in high school although she was much more popular.  She was incredibly talented musically.  I was in her first wedding.  She had two children: Kihm and John Gary.  Her first marriage ended in divorce after about 13 years and she remarried Peter Draa a few years later.  We kept in touch off and on but always close.  She came to Florida for my dad's 90th birthday because she felt he was her only father figure. Sadly she died of leukemia at about age 60.  I miss talking to her by phone and our occasional visits.  She lived  outside Buffalo NY.

Cathey was my first date and I recall spending considerable time getting up the courage to ask her.  Fortunately she said yes and of course, I could never forget that moment.

I think Cathey came to Hastings when we were in 4th grade. She became my friend then and I have many wonderful memories of her. Unfortunately, I moved away in 1961 and I haven't seen anyone since then except Liz Cronkhite and Susan Delanoy. I remember Hastings so fondly and I would love to go back. Maybe I will be able to come to the next reunion. I'm so sorry that Cathey won't be there.

Cathey was a great and smart girl.  We were math buddies in Miss Dowd's advanced math class.  I got to sit next to her often as dictated by our last names: Mayer, Mayo!  I remember thinking of how she would be missed upon learning of her passing.
