Janine Lundborg Settelmeyer

As I think back on the last fifty years, my life really breaks down into five chunks…… college, buyer years, high tech years, caregiving years and my current volunteer world. I was married in there for a few years but not for long and no children.

College was fun and that first taste of independence. The last year sharing a house with four others including Janice Frisch. My memories are more of using a fake ID than of the studying. I did, however, study enough to graduate from the University of Montana with a degree in marketing.

I graduated and headed to Portland, Oregon where I became a buyer for a department store. Loved that job -- spending someone else’s money, making more money with it and being PAID to travel.

The high tech years were in northern California as a Project Manager on sofware projects. Memories are of travel to Singapore and Malaysia on one trip, Japan on another, and London and Ireland on a third. What a huge growth experience world travel is!!!

My mother visited me in California for winters each year. In 1996 when she came to visit, I took her to the Dr. and she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. This lead to my quitting work, 10 years of caregiving, and moving back to Portland. It molded me in a different direction…. more patience, less money and left me more political and also with more self-satisfaction.

I then moved into my retirement/volunteer phase. Keep busy with projects and League of Women Voters, Meals on Wheels delivery, volunteer council for AARP and usher at Portland theaters. Also spend time doing aqua zumba, yoga and eating out.
