From Judy Levey Stein:
"We started writing each other when the Iraq War started again. My daughter Heather Lerner was in the Army and her son was a Marine. She was always very upbeat. She had told me she was ill but didn't specify what was wrong. On facebook one of her family memebers had told me of her passing because I had noticed I sent her Happy Birthday wishes and she did not respond. She will be greatly missed."

Sonya has since passed on, we tried to be roommates in Phoenix but did not work. It was still being in touch with her despite her illness. gloria epstein-wood

After the initial shock of learning about Sonya, I started to think about all the fun we had in school. Decorating that car with tissue roses and dressing up in costume with Sandy Kanter, Lynn and Joey Lloyd for the Sophomore Homecoming parade, that was all Sonya's doing. All the sleepovers at her house with her big sister Rosie when we'd stay up all night gabbing. There was one time at my house we made mini pizzas and used tomato paste undiluted. When we asked my mom why they tasted so nasty, she gave me the "look" we've all given our kids when they don't listen to us and asked Sonya if she was sure she was Italian? I'm happy to say that I still have pictures of our Homecoming costumes and float as well as some shots of Sonya at my 16th birthday. I still have the charm she gave me with both our names on it, I'm glad I saved it. She was a vibrant, loving, happy person and she will be missed!
