Comments:

I Graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1973. I sailed on merchant vessels to Asia, South America, Africa, and spent time on tug boats moving barges up and down the Mississippi River.

Since then I have lived with my family (in most cases) in Spain, Hong Kong, Washington state, Holland, The United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Singapore, California, Virginia, and North Carolina. I have worked for four companies- all in the Transportation Business. I currently work for DP World, running the America's Region (Canada, U.S., and Latin America). DP World is an Arab company that owns and operates container and general cargo terminals worldwide. I travel a great deal- mostly in Latin America.

Theresa and I married in 1973 and have been together for 37 years.

My son lives in Omaha and works for PayPal. Erica lives in Charlotte and works for a cargo logistics company- Hellmann. Our youngest also lives in Charlotte and is going to school full time, studying Criminal Justice. No grandchildren, thus far.

In 2006 I was nominated by President George Bush to run the Maritime Administration in the Department of Transportation. MARAD is the agency within the government that sets and manages maritime policy for the U.S. government. I was forced to withdraw my name from the nomination when our political establishment and media took issue with DP World's acquisition of several U.S. Ports.

Since 2006 I have been active in various efforts to lobby and educate our politicians about international trade, port and cargo security issues, U.S. maritime policy, and the U.S. transportation infrastructure. Washington continues to be a fact free environment.

Terry and I have 4 dogs (2 labs, and 2 golden retrievers) and live in a great house on almost 2 acres of land adjacent to a wildlife sanctuary. In addition to our dogs we enjoy a succession of wildlife coming through our yard each night (deer, raccoons, possum, coyotes, foxes, and whatever we don't see).

Much of my spare time on the weekends is spent in puttering around the yard. I do all of my own gardening and house upkeep.

I am President of the North Carolina chapter of the USMMA Alumni Association. In addition I sit on the Board of Governors of the Maritime Security Council, an industry advocacy group for all aspects of maritime security.

Retirement is not in my immediate future. Too many things, yet, to do.

School Story:

High School was full of a number of interesting events. I wonder who will remember the character I dressed up as during one of our costume days ( I believe it was Halloween of Senior year).
