Comments:
BA in English with a concentration in Theatre Arts in 2003, worked in New York for a little while but decided it wasn't for me.
Did retail for about six months and decided I would be better off running my own show. I opened Dancing Panda Soapworks in early 2005, about seven months after I met my now husband, John. Yep, a BA in English and I make soap for a living. Go figure.
John and I eloped in late 2007 and we couldn't be happier. (. . .fine, we'd love a riding mower, but that can wait.) We currently live on a five-acre plot of land in Pittsboro, NC (that's just outside of Chapel Hill, for the unfamiliar) in a barn we built with our own hands. We'll be breaking ground on our house sometime between Q3 and Q4 2010 and after that, the sky's the limit. :D
UPDATE 1: I also managed to beat meningitis back in late 2001. (Funny story: we thought it might be anthrax. *eyeroll*) A little hard of hearing and my memory is a bit spotty in areas, but other than that not much damage done. I have all my limbs and my sight, so I'd call it a win! :D
UPDATE 2: Something I forgot to mention, I've been a professional game tester for the last three years. My experiences in that regard have led me to pursue a career in video game design, while still maintaining the soap business, for now. I just got so tired of games with clunky mechanics, bad visuals, and plotlines with holes in them the size of MACK trucks. . .so I figured I'd put my money where my mouth is and give it a shot myself. I attended my first industry conference in April 2009 and things went pretty well. We'll see what happens.
UPDATE 3: I finished my internship with GameX, the games and media expo in Philadelphia, in late October. Now, I'm awaiting a contract offer to come back as their full-time Talent Coordinator. (That means I convince Hollywood stars to attend the convention to do talks and sign autographs.) More as things develop!
