I have had a fascination for treating cleft lip and palate and was head of the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital Cleft lip and Palate unit in Cape town for 21 years.
I have also confined my self to head and neck aesthetic surgery and have developed the "Scarless" Mid-face-lift, the brow lift and neck lift.
I realised that everything that you see when you look at photo-aged skin is the result of a localised vitamin A deficiency - particularly skin cancers - and I formulated creams initially for my patients but then started exporting and now we export to more than 50 countries and the range Environ is used by many internationally recognised faces, and in luxury spas and cruise liners. I believe it is the most effective range in the world today.
I patented a special device to enhance penetration that I also think is the most effective machine in the world today. This uses iontophoresis and low frequency sonophoresis.
in 1996 I started researching skin needling and despite initial opposition this is becoming recognised as one of the most effective treatments for burn scars, acne scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles.
I have also discovered and started the patent for a method to treat herpes (simple and genital and herpes zoster) in one application of four minutes that so far has been effective on everyone that has used it.
I have written about 8 chapters in textbooks for plastic surgeons, aesthetic surgeons and also for dermatological sciences.
I have written articles for various medical journals on cleft lip and palate, facelifts, skin care and skin needling.
I have published four books on skin care for the general public, understanding skin needling for the general public, a text book on the Science of vitamin A in skin care and another (in publication) on skin analysis. I have also published "Dr Fernandes handbook on skin care" in Japanese.
