After high school I went off to college in Sault Ste. Marie for two years studying psychology. I did some studying, some partying, and made some friends. Then I transfered to NMU for a change of pace and study, switching to broadcasting. I had worked at the college radio stations of both universities and nmu's public radio as well. I wrote for the college newspaper in the Sault (the compass) but didn't have time at NMU. While skipping a class I ended up falling in love (in the tutor lab of all places) and was married a year and a half later.
Once my children were born I became a stay at home mom for eight years. Believe me, in a situation like that, one day blends into the next, as do the months, and the years..... but it was worth it. Though most of my twenties went by raising kids, they are the best part of me and so much more, so it was definitely a job worth doing.
During my divorce I ended up coming back to L'Anse for a little help from the family while I got back on my feet. It was strange to re-enter the working world after such a long hiatus but I also rediscovered part of myself in doing so. Part of who you are is what you do with your time and who you share it with. I landed a job as a legal secretary and found out that I loved it. It sort of stuck ever since, and now I've been doing it for five years. 8-)
It was hard to adjust from being a housewife and mother to a single mother/working woman, but it worked out well enough. Being back in L'Anse has allowed me to reconnect with old friends and feel a security in knowing that my children are walking the same school halls that I once did. There is a feeling of safety in knowing the history of your town and the families of the people living there. So I am glad to be able to raise them in this environment.
Nowadays I don't have nearly enough free time to do everything I'd like, but then who does? I try to read a good book now and again, watch the movies that interest me the most, and spent alot of time outdoors and staying active.
Since I'm running out of things to say I will end off with a few random and possibly odd facts that you may or may not know about me:
1) No bake cookies (without the peanut butter) are my absolute favorite cookie ever!
2) I love to dance but look like a total dork when I do it!
3) I think comedies are WAY better than a chick flicks EXCEPT when they are combined in one, then you have the best of both worlds!
4) I also have a deep love for Westerns! Clint Eastwood and John Wayne are my two favorite actors of all time. (I am so weird I know!)
5) I don't drink much alcohol but when I do, I love whiskey (kesslers) and squirt.
6) I detest the smell of cigarette smoke (sorry smokers) but I get migraines from strong smells (and also from bright or flashing lights).
7) I wear sunglasses nearly all the time (even sometimes indoors ~ like walmart) not because I think they make me look cool, but because of the migraine thing. The fluorescent lighting is one of my biggest triggers.
8) I secretly fantasize about being a famous writer ~ don't see that happening anytime in the near future but remember I said 'fantasize'.
9) I met my boyfriend through online dating only to find out he lived three blocks away from me. LOL!
10) I don't mind growing older because each year of life is a gift. But I'd prefer to do it without the wrinkles and gray hair. Ah, well, you can't have it all right?
