(June) Robert L. Dixon

Robert L. Dixon, 75, died November 25, 2014. He was born September 20, 1939 in Lansing, to Donald A. and Jessie (Dawson) Dixon.

On September 5, 1964, in Pigeon, he married the former Barbara Buchholz.

Earning a bachelors of science in environmental health from Ferris State University, Mr. Dixon worked for the Jackson City Health Department after graduation. He authored the original Public Health Code for the Mason-Manistee County Department of Health. He served as Director of Environmental Health for District 10 of Manistee-Mason County Department of Health for 36 years, retiring in 1998.

Bob was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a past member of the church council and past chair of the parish ground maintenance. He was a past member of the Michigan Environmental Health Association, a member of the Fin and Feather Club, a member of the Ludington Boat Club, a member of the Ludington Charter Boat Association as owner and operator of Venture Charters for over 10 years. He played in the Men’s Summer Ball League, and coached his son and daughter’s Youth Ball Leagues.

Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Blythe Kay (Robert) Clavette; father and mother-in-law, William and Leona Baur Buchholz; and brothers-in-law, Richard H. Buchholz and Kent R. Buchholz.

FAMILY: Surviving family includes his wife of 50 years, Barbara; a son, Eric Dixon and his children, Kaitlyn and Kyle; a daughter, Elizabeth (Marty) Maki and their children, Logan and Rylee; a brother-in-law, Charles Buchholz; a sister-in-law, Nan Buchholz; 11 nephews, six nieces, three grand-nephews and five grand-nieces.

As per his request, Mr. Dixon’s remains were donated to the Department of Anatomy at Michigan State University for anatomical study.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Monday, December 15, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 502 Danaher St., Ludington, with the Rev. Domingo Shriver officiating.

VISITING TIME: Monday, December 15, from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
