In Memory

(Jan) William L. D. White

William "Bill" L. D. White

Age 81, of Charlotte, passed away on November 16, 2019 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing

Bill was born in March of 1938 to Howard and Sylvia White. He was many things: delighted granddad, proud father and wonderful husband, always a strong force to be reckoned with. He lived large and loud. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at Day Care Centers, Schools, Masonic functions, etc. Bill would appear, dressed in his festive red suit, hat and beard with his hardy “HO! HO! HO!” He brought magic to the children with each smile and candy cane. Bill was an Army Vietnam era Veteran, retired G.M. employee with 32 & 1/2 years of service, a member and past President of the Dimondale and Potterville Lions Club, a Past Master of the Grand Ledge Masonic Lodge #179 and current member of the Dimondale Masonic Lodge #449, and a Past Patron of the Grand Ledge Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern Star. Bill’ sense of humor was notorious. As a sexton for the Dimondale Cemetery, he would often joke about going out and digging up business. It was said that God didn’t know what to do with him and that the Devil didn’t want the competition. He was however a very serious fan of his beloved Michigan Wolverines. It seems very fitting that surrounded by family, he rooted his team to a win against their rival, MSU on November 16th. Shortly after that victory he slipped out of this world. One must wonder if God and the Devil had their own side bet going, and finally decided the best way to determine what Bill’s next adventure would be. Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret (Bill) Borie and Shirley White, and his brothers, Ernie White, Dick White, Don White and Dean White. He leaves behind his lovely wife, Vicki (Ankney) whom he loved and teased for over 52 years; his sons Rocky (Tammy) White and Randy (Kerry) White; his grandchildren, Kolyn, Harley, Kamryn and Peyton; great-grandson, Matt; brothers, Jack (Sherry) White and Brad White; sister, Judy (Norm); sisters-in-law, Ellen Jones, Willa White and Carol Ankney; and a large hoard of nieces and nephews that will forever be grateful to that jolly man in red. The family wishes to give special thanks to the 10 West nurses and techs for the wonderful care Bill received during his stay at Sparrow, even if he was occasionally a turd.

Memorial services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, November 23, at the Grand Ledge Masonic Temple, 200 S. River St., Grand Ledge, Michigan  48837. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Cerebral Palsy at https://ucp.org/
