Foster M. VanVliet, Jr.

Eaton Rapids - Foster VanVliet, Jr., age 81, of Eaton Rapids passed away May 30, 2021 after an extended illness. Education was his passion, teaching 31 years for Lansing school district, 10 years for Waverly adult/alternative ed, and many years of Sunday school and church youth groups.

In his spare time he was a gentleman farmer raising beef cattle and sheep for his business, Clear Creek Farms all natural meats.

Foster was an avid reader of history books with civil war being his primary interest. While vacationing he visited almost every battlefield in the country.

Foster enjoyed watching all sporting events especially when his children and grandchildren were playing. He was a very proud grandpa. He coached many youth teams. Since MSU was his alma mater (class of 1960) he was a devoted Spartan fan. He also donated playground equipment and balls to numerous elementary schools every year. Hunting and fishing were among his other interests.

Foster will be forever missed and respected by all who knew him for his good deeds and generosity. He leaves behind to relive all our fond memories: his wife of 40 years, Judy C.; daughter, Susan Roote (Terry); sons, Stephen, Dan Crater, Dave Crater; sister and brother, Janice and David VanVliet; along with 10 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter. He was predeceased by: his parents, Foster, Sr. and Harriet; son, Robert; and brother, Delbert.

A celebration of life will take place June 19, 2021 at 1:00 pm. at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 600 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids.
