Bette Graham Voketz January 15, 1939 – May 22, 2019

Bette Graham Voketz, 80, of Decatur, Alabama passed away on May 22, 2019.

Bette was a devoted wife (61 years) and mother of four; never wavering while caring for her special needs son for his entire 48 years. In addition, she was an avid competitor/ athlete. She was a card shark, waterskier, softball player, league bowler, and state champion tennis player. Her professional career began at age 15 and continued until she retired from organist position at First Christian Church Decatur (29 years) at age 74. Spanning 59 years, Bette accompanied various church bodies including First Baptist Decatur (18 years), community organizations, school choral groups, children/adult choirs, various recitals, countless weddings and funerals, as well as teaching numerous children piano and the love of music. She led children’s choirs, began handbell choirs and orchestras at churches and led numerous VBS programs. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Gertrude Graham, and one son, Eric. She leaves behind husband, Gary; children, Staci Paysinger (Tim), Brian (Susan) Voketz, and Dan (Sherry) Voketz; brothers, Charles Jr. (Kathy) Graham and Robert (Janet) Graham; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers include Alex Donahoo, Brad Irwin, Eric Letson, Dan Creighton, Zac Creighton, and Drew Johnson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Hospice of the Valley

Visitation will be at First Christian Church Wednesday, May 29, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at 5:00 pm with Rev. Mickey Johnson officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
