Jovita Lorraine "Jo" Hastings (Walker)

Jovita Lorraine Hastings Walker went to join her Lord and Saviour Wednesday, July 20, 2011, a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. Jovita Lorraine and her beloved husband, Fred P. Walker, of 36 years, lived in Freeport, PA with their sons, Forrest G. Walker and Grey H. Walker and their grandson, “precioso” Kaleb H. Walker. “Lorrie” as she was fondly known to her family and friends, was employed at the Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, PA for 26 years and everyone there held her in the highest esteem. She was a devote catholic and belonged to St. Mary Mother of God Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Brackenridge American Legion Auxiliary and Freeport Eagles.

Born March 6, 1953, in Laredo, Texas, Lorrie attended Mary Help of Christians and St. Augustine Elementary Schools and L.J. Christen High School. She graduated from J.W. Nixon High School in 1972. After high school, she attended The University of Texas at Austin. Upon her return to Laredo, she volunteered at the Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center assisting those in need.

Lorrie had an extraordinary “sparkly” spirit and a love of life she shared with everyone! She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Texas Longhorn fan! Her treasured hummingbirds and fish pond were the centerpieces of her exquisite gardens. In the spring of 2005, along with her sisters, Cynthia Hastings Regius and Gloria Hastings, Lorrie traveled to Europe for a Pilgrimage of Thanksgiving to Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal. Upon her return, she shared the story of the Our Lady of Fatima and the Blesseds Jacinta and Francisco with her family and friends.

She is survived by her mother, Irma M. Hastings, her sister Sandra G. Hastings and her brother Daniel B. (Gloria) Hastings Jr. of Laredo, TX and sisters, Cynthia D. (Fred) Regius, of Westminster, CA, Irma E. (Sister) Hastings and Elizabeth (Joseph Martinez) Hastings of Austin, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Daniel B Hastings Sr., and maternal/paternal grandparents.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Divine Mercy Catholic Church Celebrated by Rev. Michael de Leon, Pastor and friend. Everyone is asked to meet at the Church.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Sacred Heart Children’s Home, Laredo, Texas, in memory of Jovita Lorriane Hastings Walker.
