Comments:

I went to CU Boulder for two years after high school, first undecided and then as a Theatre major. I then decided that I wanted to study theatre in England--but on my own terms, not through a US university. I took a year off, got a job at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in the box office, and spent the year preparing for drama school auditions. During this time I met my husband at MileHiCon, a scifi/fantasy/horror convention. When I met him, he was dressed up for the costume contest as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, complete with wig and dress--those of you who knew me will know how appropriate our meeting really was. I took a trip to London to audition for the drama schools I was applying to and made it onto a wait list, but the wait list didn't open up. I tried again the following year with the same result. By this time I had gotten married and decided that I'd stay put and finish my degree, in Geology (complete shift in the pendulum, I know.) I began attending CU Denver and continued working part time at the box office. After a short time, I changed my major to English (there goes that pendulum again.) I also bought a house with my husband, in Englewood. I completed my degree in English Literature with emphasis on Creative Writing in May 2007 and proceeded to start a collection of rejection slips from various fiction publications. I stayed at the box office until my son was born in October of last year. One year had turned into more than seven and I was more than ready to move on. I've stayed home with Robin since his birth, attempting to write science fiction during nap time and failing miserably most of the time (I really had no appreciation for how much WORK babies are until I had one... and how much time they take up.) I had decided I would stay home for my son's first year at least, and then reevaluate. Now that my year is 9 1/2 months over, I've been thinking a lot about what comes next, and am currently completely undecided, but part of me is feeling the pendulum shift again. We'll see.
