Zaida Rosales

ZAIDA ROSALES Spc. Zaida Rosales, 25, of Lorain, OH, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Hawaii, died Saturday, Nov. 19, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident near Wahiawa, Hawaii. She was a 1998 graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School and entered the military upon her graduation, completing training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Her first duty assignment was HHC 8th Army in Korea, followed by Japan; her second tenor was HHC 34th engineer in Fort Riley, Kan., serving as a food service specialist. After completion at Fort Riley, she was assigned to HHC 125th Military Intelligence, Scholfield Barracks, Hawaii. Under her assignment, she completed field exercises in Thailand as a joint Pacific Command Training Exercise. She was also a member of the Headquarters Co. 45th Corp. Support Group (Forward) SPC. She also participated in the joint Navy Focus Training Mission at Pearl Harbor, having currently been assigned to Bravo Company 325th Forward Brigade Combat Team in Hawaii. Her decorations include: two Good Conduct Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, two Overseas Tour Ribbons, a Global War on Terrorism Medal, a National Defense Medal, and multiple achievement awards as food service specialist. She enjoyed salsa, merengue, basketball, tennis, and billiards. Survivors include: her daughter, Jasmine Natalia Merryweather of Lorain; father, Fermin Rosales Sr. of Lorain; sisters Susana Ayala of Lorain, Carmen Ferrell of Seattle, and Wanda Gage and Evelyn Rodríguez, both of Lorain; brothers Gabriel Rosales and Ralph Rosales, both of Abaline, Kan., Fermin Rosales Jr. of Kent, Robert Rosales of Santa Paula, Calif., and Ramon Rosales of Evansville, Ind., and Michael Witchy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Natalia Rosales (née Hernández), in 1994. **The obituary says she was a 1998 graduate but she was in our class. Not sure if she graduated early or if this was a misprint.
