In Memory

Steve Florin (Heyman)

Class President

Class President

And Three-sport athlete,

Symbol of high school success.

Booked movies into theaters,

Produced one or two

We never heard of,

Husband, Father,

Youth sports coach.

I remember you

at our 22rd reunion

In a white suit

Holding court by the bar,

Talking of selling shares

In Silver Screen partners.

I know there must be more

But, in this age of information,

Communication,

Everything about everything,

I want to know ...

And all the legacy.coms

Share little.

I think of Housman.

Did the laurel wreath wither

With the early deeds

Even as he lived a good life

With family and friends

Quietly, Uneventfully?

I didn’t know you well

But we shared a school

When we were young.

Rest In Peace,

Old classmate.

A wonderful friend!!  Those of us who enjoyed our special dinners (of which there were many) got to know Steve,  laughed and reminisced with him will surely miss our good friend.

Howie, your comments regarding Steve bring back memories of our high school years. Steve was one of the cool guys in the class, the jock of the group, but very serious with no sense of humor. I recall he dated Margie Steckler, another classmate, for  a number of years. Steve and I were partners in Chemistry class our senior year. The highlight of my high school career. (I had an uneventful time in high school). Later on Steve and his wife Reberta lived in Westchester county near a good friend of my wife Nancy. As a result, we vacationed with Steve, Reberta and our friends a few times.  As serious as Steve was, his wife Reberta was remarkably personable and funny. They made quite a couple. All the best. Could not agree more.  Steve and Margie were the Brad and Angelina of Lynbrook 63.  Warm and friendly to all.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Steve's passing. After seeing and talking to him at our reunion, he took the trouble to message me in order to pass along some information that was pertinant to our conversation. How kind and thoughtful of him.

My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

At LHS I only knew Steve by his status and name change, but had a chance to talk with him at our 50th and he was happy to pose with everyone for memory photos because we were so happy to be together once more.  His passing touches all of us as he was one of us.  Condolences to his family, friends and us.
