Richard Mendelsohn was a truly smart, talented, and kind man.  I knew him since grade school and was very saddened to hear of his passing.  May his memory be a blessing.

Rich Mendelsohn was a special person.  I didn't know him for as long as many of his elementary school classmates, but for those few years we knew each other in high school, he made a lasting impression on me.  I will never forget his intellect, kindness, humor, courage and spirit.  Mike Fonner was right by mentioning that one unforgettable picture of Rich in our yearbook.  How could you not love and respect the guy in that photo?  Those of us who knew Rich, even a little, were witness to one of the best human beings on the planet. Rich will certainly be missed, but not ever forgotten.

Richard was an inspiration to us all. Having grown up with him since elementary school thru high school, he never stopped amazing me. Courage intelligence and positive outlook he was a role model and an example for us all. Playing golf with him at our reunion was a blast. My heartfelt condolences to his family and all that knew him. You will be missed my friend.....

Such an interesting human being, he added greatness to our class of 1970. We last saw each other at Miami U, in Oxford, OH. Rich was  pitching softball for our intramural team , and as usual he kept things light and lively. Many comments have been made of his photo in our senior yearbook. Rich was racing towards the finish line on our track, this was in the fall during the football season. I had broken my ankle a few weeks before and was feeling a bit down and sorry for myself. Rich came up to me and stated that the odds would now be even with him, in a one lap race around the track. If interested let him know. So after school a few days later ... the race took place. 60-70 people came out to watch and cheer us on that afternoon. I won the race, however Rich won the hearts of all the classmates that attended that afternoon. An inspiration to all, we have lost another dear friend

I met Rich early on my first year at Greenview.  I think he was the first person in my life I met that had a handicap.. being in a number of classes over the years at Greenview and then at Brush I learned it never mattered, it never held him down.. he was a light hearted wonderful guy a bright spot of the class of 70... truely an amazing person, RIP

I am one of the Rowland kids who knew Rick as a young child. His strength, honor, courage, and obvious joy of living was an inspiration then and will continue to be. I ran into him at  Ohio Savings last year after not seeing him for a long time and we had a lovely and profound chat. I am so grateful for that chance encounter. My condolences to his family. May his memory be for a blessing.

Sam Reiss, Sid Savitt and I are probably the last high school  friends  that saw Rick before he passed away.  We all have our special thoughts of Rick but the thing that always captured our memories was Rick's determination and grit to succeed at whatever he did.  He was feisty, funny, witty, and when he had to be charming as well.  Without question Rick was one in a million with an infectious smile that we will always remember!  You can't choose family but you can choose your friends and he was one special friend that we will all remember!  GW
