I am so saddened by this news. I considered Merle my best friend when I was in high school. We often rode to school together with his father. And we had lots of good conversations about many topics of interest and concern to teenagers in the late 1950s. My prayers are with his family.

This certainly is a sad time for us all to see those we grew up with and loved struggling with physical/health issues. Merle was always so kind and fun seeming to love life and obviously he had high aspirations which he accomplished! My condolences to all his family and friends! A toast to him for his extraordinary life's journey! RIP

I was saddened to hear of Merle's passing. We went to elementary school together (Rogers) and all the way through HS. We had some great parties (New Years) and were in several clubs in HS. Merle was a good friend. May he RIP.
