Karen and I became best friends at the beginning of our senior year and that “bestness” lasted for 50 years.  Two of our fondest high school memories: we ate lunch every day during our senior year at Strom’s drug store, sitting at the lunch counter in the thick haze of Mr. Strom puffing on his cigar while he filled prescriptions.  We made our own “Senior Skip Out Day” and went to Bradford Beach; it was about 50 degrees, but the sun was shining and we were soaking up the sun, cold but happy as could be.  Children, grandchildren, weddings, funerals, weekend get-togethers…we shared it all.  There were always miles between us, but somehow the distance never mattered.  I lost my best friend in March to cancer, but our last weekend together was spent laughing, reminiscing, having our traditional pizza and wine…just the usual “us” time.  Rest in Peace, Karen;; you’ll always be in my heart!
