I served a mission in Ecuador. Kimberlee Wright came to see me at the airport when I got home. She was looking very cute in this multi-colored sweater and within a few weeks we were dating. With the exception of a couple of weeks during our sophomore year when we were "dating" (if you can really consider anything serious at that age), we had been friends ever since we met. On that first date, we said, "wouldn't it be funny if we got married." Eight months later it was a reality.
I went to school for what seemed like forever and we had two kids along the way, Nick and Nate. After graduating with a Ph.D. in plant molecular biology and genetics we moved to North Carolina where I worked for a plant biotech company. We loved it there and would have been happy to live there the rest of our lives. We had twin boys, Jacob and Jonah, while we were there. After 3 years, I decided to join a company in Thousand Oaks, CA called Ceres (www.ceres.net). We have been here over 3 years now and are liking it - not as much as NC, but you can't beat the weather. Ceres is commercializing dedicated energy crops such as switchgrass, sorghum and miscanthus to be grown and converted into biofuels.
It has been great fun to see this site get populated and to catch up with all of you. Life is good - I couldn't ask for anything more.
