Mary Kaye PEARSON (1945 - 2017)

PEARSON, Mary Kaye December 11, 1945 - January 12, 2017 Mary Kaye was a precious gift to all who knew her. Throughout Mary Kaye's life, she worked hard, faced many challenges, passionately cared for others, and found humor to lighten her load. She claimed the Serenity Prayer and was secure in her faith in Jesus Christ. Mary Kaye died peacefully in her mother's home with her mother and cousin at her side. Mary Kaye was born in Duluth Minnesota to her parents, Ron and Donna Pearson. When she was six, her family moved to California. Mary Kaye attended St Helena Grade School. She then attended junior high in Napa and graduated from Napa High School in 1964. In 1966, she married Dale Cummings. Their beautiful daughter, Glenda Marie was born in the same year. They divorced in 1978. Mary Kaye received her BSN in nursing from College of Marin. She had a remarkable career as an ER nurse working at Sonoma Valley Hospital and various other hospitals in California. Mary Kaye lived in her ocean front home in Rosarito Beach, Mexico for 20 years. She loved the local people, the Mexican culture, and the ocean. With good friends, she enjoyed many memorable moments on her patio with her view of the Coronado Islands and the migrating whales. When Mary Kaye sought life changing support in wellness communities, she found that she had a natural gift of helping others who shared similar challenges. She was known for offering loving encouragement and generous support to anyone in need. Her sincere compassion for others was a prevalent quality throughout her personal life and career as nurse in emergency and trauma care centers. Her loving and generous spirit was a light that shined out to all who knew and loved her. In 2011 her nursing skill and compassion were needed again at home, when she returned to provide care for her beloved father in the last year of his life. After her father's passing she remained in Santa Rosa with her mother. During the last year of her life, when illness robbed her of her energy, her mother was her constant companion. Mary Kaye often said her mother was her best friend; thus ends a lifelong bond of love and friendship between mother and daughter. Mary Kaye is preceded in death by her father, Ronald Pearson. She is survived by her mother, Donna Pearson; her daughter Glenda Marie Feece (Ron); grandchildren Luke, Logan, and Paige Feece; and many cousins. A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Star of the Valley Catholic Church 495 White Oak Drive in Santa Rosa. A reception followed.

This news truly saddens me. The happiest and friendliest girl I remember at Napa High. I recall our several classes together where we shared many laughs.  I can picture our time in U.S. Government with Clyde Wise and all the times he had to tell the two of us to pay attention.  The time I left my old '55 Ford with her during a 2 week trip away I'll never forget.  She promised to take good care of my precious car and did.  That's just who Mary was.  Her career in nursing and caregiving says everything about Mary.  That pretty smile, so fun to be with, a valued friend and someone I trusted completely.  Rest in peace dear friend.

These are never easy but this is one of the harder ones.  When Sandy & I started dating our junior year, Mary Kaye was her best friend, so I got to know her pretty well.  She was always cheery, fun & great to be around.  Thanks to the reunion & cyberspace, we reconnected a couple of years ago.  I had no idea she'd been ill.  I'll miss Mary Kaye a lot.

Mary Kaye and I came up through Redwood Jr. High together.   She was a wonderful friend and fun classmate.  She always was up for some type of trouble.  This is very sad news, indeed.  My love to her family and friends.
