It is with great pleasure that we announce that classmate Don McConnell has been voted into the Napa High School Hall of Fame. As you recall, Napa High was only a two year high school in 1963 and 1964. Don was a starter and leading scorer in both his junior and senior years. In his senior year he led Napa High to the North Bay League Championship. He was selected to the All-North Bay League team. Our team was invited to the Tournament of Champions in Berkeley for the first time since the Napa 1946-47 team. Don was one of the better players at the Tournament of Champions. Don went on to play basketball at San Jose State College and was a starter and scholarship recipient, Co-Captain, Coaches Award recipient, all-Star, and Santa Clara Valley Player of the Week. He also played for the United States Navy Sub-Pacific basketball team. He was selected for the All-Navy team for both seasons. His team won the All-Navy Championship. But it was not just Don's athletic skills that gained him admission into the Napa Hall of Fame. The Hall committee also reviews the person's life. They found him to be a person who has lived a full life of contribution and has been an excellent role model for his children, grandchildren, and his community. Congratulations to Don. Our class is very proud of you. The induction ceremony will be October 13, 2018 at the Embassy Suites in Napa, California. Anyone wishing tickets please make arrangements through the Napa High School Hall of Fame website: napahighhof.org. It is our hope that many of you will be present to support and congratulate Don." |
