Pat Anderson (Simpkins)

According to her obituary:

The Mead High debate team wore a penny drilled with a tiny hole on a dark strand around their neck.  It is worn as a remembrance of a woman who was a teacher, coach, counselor, confidente and for many, a 2nd mom.  Penny was Mead's debate couch since 1986 and died November 7th after a 3 year struggle with ovarian cancer.  She was 53.  She had a long tenure and won the debate state championship for 4 years and was inducted into the National Debate Hall of Fame which speaks to her coaching ability.  Students say that there was nothing she wouldn't do for her students.  When she was well she would drive to their homes to help them with all of the particulars of a speech
